U Matters

After dropping my son John off at Airport Express, I walked down towards the church, in sadness.  I must have had a forlorn face, for a wonderful member of Union yelled out my name and came over and gave me a hug.

It was a gesture of encouragement and care that meant more to me than she will ever know.  She was God's special messenger to me at just the right time.

On Easter Day a woman brought a message of encouragement to the downcast and defeated disciples of Jesus.  In John 20:18 we read that Mary Magdalene announced, "I have seen the Lord!"

This morning I talked to a man who has just had his vocational hopes and dreams crushed. I listened and suggested options, but I probably should have just hugged him.  He and we all are facing challenges and disappointments.  Easter reminds us Jesus Christ transformed failure into victory, and death into life.

We look forward to celebrating this great reality together this Sunday. "He is risen indeed!!"

P.S.  There will be a TV crew filming at Union Church this Sunday.
