Transforming Our Work and Workplaces
Our Faith in the Marketplace Ministry kicked off 2023 with a powerful series on Transforming our Work and Workplaces. We partnered with the Hong Kong Institute for Marketplace Transformation (HK-IMT) to deliver four sessions together with guest speakers from our Union Church community to reflect on what it means to take our faith to our work and the marketplace.
In the first session – Whose Work Matters to God – we explored God at work as our creator, redeemer, sustainer and consummator. We understood that the intrinsic value in our work is to serve God's purposes as stewards of the earth and our talents. Guest speaker, Charles Caldwell shared on how his faith empowered him in dealing with challenges at work.
In the second session – Working in a Tough and Uncertain World – we learnt with HK-IMT about working with faith, hope and love. Andrew Chua presented on faith values and invited his guest to share on a project for the marketplace that embraces Kingdom values.
Aaron Tan shared in Session 3 – What's So Good about Working? – on his faith and work journey where God has been present and guided him through discernment towards success in architectural projects that manifest and glorify the Lord.
In the final session – Taking Your Soul to Work – Cecilia Lee shared touching testimonies from her heart on how she has taken her faith and the Spirit of Christ in her soul to her everyday work, with trust and prayers bearing witness to God's hands on her projects and God's love in her community.
We are grateful HK-IMT has dedicated these course materials to support our marketplace ministry. You are able to create a free account on the HK-IMT website to review all of the teaching materials. (On this webpage created for Union Church, click the orange button ‘Review Now’ and follow instructions.)
We hope participants are encouraged in their own faith and work journey and strengthened by the knowledge that no one is alone in facing challenges. Our Lord commands us and is with us as we are called to be light and salt in the fallen world including and perhaps especially in marketplace where we spend a significant portion of our days. We are anointed in our work as stewards of God's creation and can glorify Him in all we do.
