U Matters

We are most grateful to those who committed to the 24/7 prayer initiative which found people praying from around the globe and concluded with a youth prayer event.  Our Lenten Series on the Lord's Prayer has commenced and we are gearing up for an All Church Retreat with great worship, small groups and activities/talks for children, youth and adults.

This Sunday, we welcome to the pulpit Rev Dr. David Wang, leading expert on China. Dr. Wang, authored, translated and published more than 20 books. He is the Founder of Hosanna Foundation, President Emeritus of Asian Outreach and founder/chairman of ActionLove - the social development arm in China and Asia. If you are following the Mark series, come hear Pastor Matthew at 8:30AM and 5:00PM. We hope that you are getting connected. There is indeed something for everyone.

Special Offering In Mongolia we support a home for young women who have been abused, abandoned, neglected and often left on the streets. When you compound the challenge with freezing weather, it is a dire situation. For the last several years, Desert Rose has provided housing and social care for these young women. Last week a fire broke out in their wooden home and caused substantial damage to the degree that building a new home might be more feasible. An estimated cost would be between USD25-70K.

We will be taking up a special offering this Sunday in support of Desert Rose.  Please consider giving towards this worthy cause.

Bible Talk Have you committed to our read the Bible in 2016 program? If you have, join a teaching and discussion series on the Bible designed to support all those undertaking the one year challenge. Pastor Matthew will give a 40 minute talk followed by a 20 minute group discussion from 12:30PM to 1:30PM on Sundays in the Upper Annex. Light refreshments will be served at 12:15PM. The first talks are:

  • 28 Feb - Introduction: The Bible, a 3,500 Year Survival Story
  • 06 Mar - Genesis 1-11, Job: Life's Biggest Questions
  • 20 Mar -  Genesis 12-50, Exodus 1-20, Numbers: Little Brothers and Stubborn Slaves

Animals talk in the book of Numbers. Annoying siblings are cursed. God creates a spy network, or MI6/CIA. Women inherit property roughly 3,350 years before they are allowed to do so in the U.K. Numbers are an unusual combination of boring census records and riveting stories, but even the censuses are important: the first census in Numbers chapter 1 introduces chapters 1-25 and the story of the old, rebellious, wilderness generation, and the second census in Numbers 26 introduces chapters 26-36 or the emergence of a new generation of hope prepared to enter the Promised Land.  Learn more about Israel’s adolescent years and God’s parental patience and tough love.
