In his wonderful book PRAYER: DOES IT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE?, Philip Yancey noted that C.S. Lewis prayed every night for the people he was most tempted to hate, with Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini leading the list. He remembered that Christ died for them and that he himself was not ‘so different from these ghastly creatures.’

This week we will talk about prayer. Paul calls us to pray for everyone (1 Timothy 2:1) but I have trouble praying for the “ghastly creatures” in my world. To be honest, I have trouble praying for the wonderful creatures in my life. Why is prayer so hard for me---and most of us? Lord, teach us to pray!

Stewardship

But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)

In the past, I used to think God took something away from me in the tithe.

Soon, God taught me: I can give one tenth, because I have received ten tenths in the first place.

It’s a change from a “tunneled vision” to “seeing the whole picture”. It changes me from seeing myself only, to seeing God’s people. I have been given a lot, and I am empowered to make a difference for many people.

God indeed provides. I must admit that I am frugal towards money, and it hurt at the beginning when I gave a tithe. But faith prevailed. Once I persisted with giving during a time of financial difficulties. Later God surprised me with a job with better pay. Till now, God provides, abundantly and with peace.
