U Matters

Tuesday the Union staff spent the day at Disneyland. It's always good to get away and great to spend time with colleagues outside of the normal workplace. Even now we are sharing stories (and compromising pictures). The time together has brought us closer.

Church is like that. As the writer of Hebrews put in verse 10:23"Let's see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on."

Union is full of inventive and encouraging people. I thank God for a congregation and colleagues to spur me on to following Jesus.

The James Legge Christmas Musical - Save the date: 14 December

This year our children will be performing a very special Christmas Musical: The James Legge Christmas Musical. Who, you may ask, was James Legge? He was a famous Christian missionary and scholar in the mid-1800s. He also became the first professor of Chinese at Oxford University. More importantly, Reverend James Legge was Union Church's first pastor and the founder of our church in 1844. In this year's Christmas Musical, we have the privilege of having Reverend Legge as our narrator to tell us the joyous message of the birth of Jesus and share with us some wonderful stories in the history of Union Church. We look forward to making this year's Christmas musical a truly historic and memorable performance for all families and friends of Union Church.

If you would like to get involved by sharing with us your creative talents in staging, costumes, music, graphics, choreography, marketing or just helping us inspire our performers, please contact Danielle Bradsher, Producer of the Musical, or Chris Yorks, Music Director. Thank you and may the JOY OF CHRISTMAS be with you all year round!

Oasis - Speaks “My Passion” Series

Talk 1: Matthew Fredericks

Why did God order children killed (1 Sam. 15:3)? Why did Paul command women to be silent in church (1 Cor. 14:34)? Why is “Do not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk” so important that it became the Tenth Commandment (Ex. 34:26)?

Pastor Matthew will reflect on how to interpret and explain confusing or offensive passages in Scripture.
