U Matters

Wednesday night the Joint Leaders of Union Church met and heard an exciting report from BUFF (Building Union for the Future). Before the Chinese New Year you will be receiving information and there will be forums to discuss the plans. Members will vote at the AGM on March 16 if everything falls into place. Please pray for wisdom for the BUFF committee as they serve us so well.

Sunday January 19 we welcome Dr. John Huffman to our pulpit. He has long been one of my pastoral heroes. He has chaired the boards of World Vision, Christianity Today, and Gordon-Conwell Seminary. You won't want to miss him.

Former Union Pastor Bill Teng will also be with us next Sunday and is looking forward to greeting old friends.

Pastor Greg

Annual General Meeting

There will not be an Extraordinary General Meeting on January 26 as originally announced. The agenda item originally scheduled for that meeting will be covered at the AGM on March 16, Sunday. (Please see the announcement below on the AGM).

The congregation is encouraged to attend Union's Annual General Meeting, which will be held at 11 am on Sunday March 16 in lieu of the 11 am service. Voting members will vote for church officers and the plan for Building Union for the Future will be presented for approval.

January 15, Wednesday at 8pm: Two Wisemen

John Huffman and Nury Vittachi will both deliver talks.

Vittachi published 40 plus fiction, non-fiction, and children's books. He has published in the Standard and many other newspapers across Asia, and on the web under the alias of Mr Jam. Vittachi was born in Ceylon in 1958, married in Hong Kong, and adopted three Chinese children. He is probably Hong Kong's most beloved journalist and author. He will speak on Science and Faith.

Huffman was born in Boston, earned his doctorate from Princeton Seminary, served for 47 years as a pastor, and acted as the chaplain for the Miami Dolphins and PGA Senior Golf Tour. He has three children and travels the world to lead people to a personal, saving faith in Jesus Christ. He also guides World Vision, Christianity Today, Gordon-Conwell Seminary, and the American Association of Evangelicals as a board member. He will speak on 'Can I really know the Will of God?’

Missions

Union Church is a Missional minded Church!

Several folk in the congregation have come forward to have their organization included in our Missions Directory. But we would like to hear from more of you. If you are involved with an organization or ministry which works with asylum seekers, feeding the elderly, taking care of orphans and disabled children, integral mission, or caring for the poor in communities around Hong Kong and Asia, or even further afield, please do connect with Lee-Ann or May Tang. This year, our hope as a Missions Team is to get even more people engaged in Missions and Outreach.

If you represent an organization by being a board member, an employee or volunteer, and would like your organization to be included, please email May Tang
