U Matters

Today, July 30th is “World Day Against Trafficking in Persons”, a day that has been set apart to educate and focus on the first responders of human trafficking. It has been reported that this industry is worth $150 billion dollars per year and includes sexual exploitation, illegal organ donation and forced labour - working in local restaurants, nail salons, garment factories, farms, hotels, slaughterhouses, packing factories, and private homes. It has been reported that human trafficking is the second largest and fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world.

In Hong Kong, we give thanks for the organizations who are working in this area. Let’s continue to pray for and support the ministries of Sons and Daughters and STOP - Stop Trafficking of People - a Branches of Hope ministry - as the present pandemic creates additional challenges.

Oh Lord, you are a just and mighty God. We ask that you open our hearts and minds to the plight of those who are trapped in human trafficking - we lift before you the men, women and children and ask for your healing and protection. Lord, give us the strength, the power and the wisdom to do what we can. We pray for justice for the victims and wisdom for those who counsel and support. We pray for protection and provision for all the NGO’s working in this area. We pray for the oppressed and the oppressors - in Jesus name Amen.

“Again, I saw all the oppressions that are practiced under the sun. Look, the tears of the oppressed—with no one to comfort them! On the side of their oppressors there was power—with no one to comfort them.” Ecclesiastes 4:1

Blessings, Pastor Michele

New Sunday Morning Class: Faith In Trying Times
Join us from 10:30-11:15am on zoom as we discuss how times of uncertainty (like now!) are really opportunities to grow in faith. Using Laurie Short's video series "Fear, Waiting, Hope" we'll look at situations in the Bible where people had to overcome fear, lean into God’s timing and see dark times as an opportunity to increase hope. Register here to get the zoom link. Led by Dan Tupps, Monte Peterson and Pastor Michele. August 9, 16, 23, 30

ReCharge:

Missions:

Inner City Ministries focuses on helping the ethnic minorities and their families in Hong Kong. One special group of people that Inner City Ministries help are recovering drug addicts. After a year of rehab, many of these individuals cannot find employment, and they quickly slip back into drug abuse. If you know of any job opportunities that are open to hiring rehabilitated individuals, please contact emmanuel@innercityministries.org.

Another exciting opportunity is to volunteer and help in their children’s program. Learn more about how to keep kids safe or to mentor them at innercityministries.org/children

Sons & Daughters, our neighbours in Wan Chai, share God's love with the women and men of the red light districts throughout Hong Kong.  Calling all bakers! Your baking skills can help open doors and transform lives in the red light districts.
