U Matters

In 1 Kings 18: 22, Elijah says, “I am the only one of the Lord’s prophets left…”  That is the way I feel about Chinese New Years as so much of the congregation takes off or focuses on their families.

But for those of us around this week, there are some great opportunities for fellowship and worship. I will be preaching Sunday morning on Contentment and Brenna Dykman will begin a series on the prophet Amos at 5PM. Meanwhile, Anto and Hunter have youth events planned for those “left behind." Please join us.

5:00PM Sermon Series ‘Amos: a Prophet for the People’
29 January, 5, 12, 19 and 26 February
God called Amos, a shepard, to prophesy to the nation of Israel. What Amos said was not comforting. Amos criticised the nation for injustice and lack of care for those on the margins of society. Join us for a 5 week sermon series on the minor prophet Amos who gave major challenges to God’s people.

“The Marriage Course” will run from Thursdays, 9 February – 23 March 2017. The course offers a lifetime of practical ideas and tools to help keep your relationship strong. The course is based on Christian principles but is designed for ALL couples with or without a church background.

Annual General Meeting

Union’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on Saturday, 11 March 2017. It will begin at 6PM with a “Love Feast”, followed by the meeting at 7PM. Please come join us as we celebrate together, and give glory to God. Non-members are welcome to attend. Please bring a dish, salad or dessert to share. The sign-up sheet will be available at the “Table on the Green”.

Nominations for 2017 Committee of Management (CoM) are now open to the church. Members of 6 months and above, over 18 years of age and in good standing, who wish to nominate a candidate for the 2017 CoM, please fill in a nomination form available from the church office and submit to the office, attention the Honorary Secretary. Nominations must be seconded by another voting member and have the agreement of the nominee.
The candidate will also need to be over 18 years old, a member of more than 6 months and in good standing. Nomination for CoM members will be closed on Sunday, 26 February 2017.

Uni-On – NEW LOCATION
Are you between 18 and 23? Studying or interning in Hong Kong? Join us at Starbucks in HKU (Near Library) on Thursdays 5:30-7PM for a chance to relax and experience community with other University-aged young adults from Union. Contact Anto or email YOUNG ADULTS.

Youth 

Youth Movie Night
This Friday 27 January will be a Youth Group Movie Night! Youth of all ages are encouraged to attend. There will be snacks, refreshments, and most of all a chance for youth to hangout and relax together while watching a movie!

No Youth Sunday Life 
Youth will not meet for Sunday Life this coming Sunday 29 January as a result of Chinese New Year. 

Ocean Park Day Trip
Friday 3 February will be a fun trip to Ocean Park with those Youth who are in Hong Kong during the Chinese New Year holiday. Youth should bring $438 for the ticket (also can be purchased before hand here). Youth should also bring money for lunch/snacks if they want them.

Afternoon Hike w/ Love21
On Sunday 5 February Youth are encouraged to join Love21 as they hike in Hong Kong. We will meet at 3PM at Quarry Bay MTR, exit A, and be done by 6PM.

RESOUND
Friday 17 February will be RESOUND Worship Night, where youth from all the international churches of Hong Kong will come together to play games, hear testimony and worship together. We will meet at 6PM and be back to Union by 9:30PM.

Dad & Son Day Out
Fathers and sons are invited to an uplifting, memorable day out in Cheung Chau Island on Saturday 25 February from 10AM to 6PM.
There will be exciting activities, opportunities for learning and also plenty of time for dads/sons to engage with one another and have fun.

Kingdom Kids

NO SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS There will be no Sunday School class this Sunday, 29 January due to Chinese New Year break. Children 3 to 10 years old are invited to the lower annex for a Veggie Tales movie showing. Regular Sunday School class will resume on Sunday, 5 February. We wish all our Kingdom Kids family a Blessed Chinese New Year.
