U Matters

"Grim was the world and grey last night:
The moon and stars were fled,
The hall was dark without song or light,
The fires were fallen dead."

This is the first stanza of a J.R.R. Tolkien poem discovered recently, entitled “Noel.”

That must be the way the three people felt when they attended the last service ever in the sanctuary of the old Union Church on 24 December 1941.  It was Christmas Day when the British authorities surrendered to the Japanese and the Battle of Hong Kong was over.  

Seventy-five years later, we will celebrate, God willing, the last Christmas Eve service in the current Union Church.

This will be a nostalgic time for many of us but we will celebrate a Saviour who came to this grim world and filled it with light, life and love.

Opportunities

New Courses: “The Jesus Lifestyle” and “The Marriage Course”

“The Jesus Lifestyle” 6 week course will start on Wednesday, 11 January 2017. It follows on from the Alpha course but is open to everyone.
'Nicky Gumbel presents such topics as: how to find the secret of happiness? How to change the world around you? How to handle anger?
Time: 7:30PM – 9:00PM
No supper provided. Registration email: ALPHA.

“The Marriage Course” will run from Thursdays, 16 February – 30 March 2017. The course offers a lifetime of practical ideas and tools to help keep your relationship strong. The course is based on Christian principles but is designed for ALL couples with or without a church background.
Time: 7:00PM – 9:00PM
There will be a charge to cover the cost of the weekly dinners. Registration details to follow.

Prayer for Union Come lift up the needs of Union Church. Join us every Tuesday morning at 7:30AM for a time of prayer in the Sanctuary. 

Youth 

Not-Left-Behind Day - Wednesday, 28 December
Please join us on Wednesday, 28 December for a special day-out for both Junior and Senior High. Please meet at 10AM at the entrance of the Rink (Elements). Make sure to bring HK$100 for lunch and a topped up Octopus card with HK$120 on it! Games in the afternoon. Event will end at 5PM at Union Church.

2017 Youth Kickoff
Our First Friday Night of the year will be Friday, 6 January! Please join us to welcome the New Year.
Junior High (11-13) from 6:00PM to 8:00PM
Senior High (14-18) from 7:30PM to 9:00PM (+Hang out in the Youth Lounge after until 10:00PM!)

Kingdom Kids

No Sunday School Class on Sunday, 1 January 2017
There will be no Sunday School classes on Sunday, 1 January 2017. Instead Kingdom Kids will be screening Veggie Tales movies. Regular Sunday School class will resume on Sunday, 8 January 2017 at both the 9:30AM  and 11:00AM services.
