U Matters

July 20 has always been a special day for me. It is my sister’s birthday and it is the day that men landed on the moon in 1969. Ask those of us who are chronologically challenged—it was 47 years ago— what we were doing and we will tell you. “One small step, one great leap for mankind,” said Neil Armstrong as he stepped out onto the surface of the moon from the Apollo 11 Lunar Module.

What an audacious dream it was to go to the moon. It took an amazing amount of time, talent, and money to do it.  But what a mission accomplished! Our Lord calls us to an even greater mission. What a joy it is to be part of something far greater than ourselves as we work together to help share the good news of Christ, starting in Hong Kong but stretching all over the world.

What happened to Israel and Judah in the second enslavement? We will discuss biblical events after the conquest of Israel by Assyria (722 B.C.) and Judah by Babylon (587 B.C.) as recorded in Esther, Daniel, Ezra, and Nehemiah. The Deuterocanonical books, or the Apocrypha, also relate stories from the captivity (and post-captivity) period. Be prepared to discuss dragons, dungeons, and a beautiful woman who never mentioned God but stars in the Bible.
