U Matters

Throughout University I was on the varsity rowing team. We trained 6 days a week - rain or shine we were on the water at 6AM.  It was an eight seater and if one person slept in, the boat remained on the racks. If one person “caught a crab” the whole boat lost rhythm. We needed and depended on each other. It reminds me of the body of Christ, “if one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” 1 Corinthians 12:26. Imagine the impact of a church wholeheartedly pulling together, going in the same direction, at the same time.

As we prepare for the weekend, I am grateful for the staff team who have worked together well to provide a retreat.  “Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone - we find it with another.” Thomas Merton –

'Numbers and Deuteronomy' by Alex Ting and Matthew Fredericks

In the book of Numbers, animals speak, God creates a spy network, and women inherit property 3,500 years before they are allowed to do so in England. The book of Deuteronomy famously contains the Shema Yisrael, or the most sacred verses in Judaism that was quoted by Jesus Christ when he was asked to summarise the Bible.  In addition Deuteronomy has God's statement of who are the blessed and the cursed (with God's explanation). Alex Ting and Pastor Matthew will conclude the books of Numbers and introduce Deuteronomy for anyone interested in learning about the Old Testament and to support all those reading the Bible in one year.
