U Matters

Alpha's meal Wednesday night was a gourmet extravaganza prepared by Rebekah Nutland, fresh back from cooking school in England. Since not part of Alpha, I asked permission to join the feast. Someone said, “He is the pastor so we can trust him." Five Alpha and Union leaders, who know me very well, all started to laugh. If one or two had laughed I would have been OK. But everyone laughed when it was claimed I could be trusted.

Lessons learned?

Lesson 1. We may not always be trustworthy but we serve a God who always keeps his word and sent his Son to die for those of us who can't keep a promise.

Lesson 2. You better tell your friends that this is the time to join Alpha because the food as well as the fellowship and the faith-exploring is fantastic!

Lesson 3. Do not spill gourmet food on the American Consulate General. He was enjoying the meal before he was to speak to the Oasis. I made a point with my plate and now I face a dry cleaning bill or the loss of my American passport!

Building Union For the Future

Deepening Our Spiritual Roots - Prepare to Be Blessed!

To grow spiritual roots, along with physical roots, join us for a Special Evening of Prayer and Worship for Building Union For The Future. During the prayer evening, a redevelopment update will be provided along with early visuals of the aspirational design. Those attending will have a chance to pray for Union Church and the future as we deepen our spiritual roots together. Come prepared to be blessed on Tue, 14 Oct from 7:30 - 9:00PM!

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8

The James Legge Christmas Musical - Save the date: 14 December

This year our children will be performing a very special Christmas Musical: The James Legge Christmas Musical. Who, you may ask, was James Legge? He was a famous Christian missionary-scholar in the mid-1800s and became the first professor of Chinese at Oxford University. But more importantly, Reverend James Legge was Union Church's first pastor and the founder of our church in 1844. In this year's Christmas Musical, we have the privilege of having Reverend Legge as our narrator to tell us the joyous message of the birth of Jesus and share with us some wonderful stories in the history of Union Church. We look forward to making this year's Christmas musical a truly historic and memorable performance for all families and friends of Union Church.

If you would like to get involved by sharing with us your creative talents in staging, costumes, music, graphics, choreography, marketing or just helping us inspire our performers, please contact Danielle Bradsher, Producer of the Musical, or Chris Yorks, Music Director. Thank you and may the JOY OF CHRISTMAS be with you all year round!
