U Matters

Thank you for your response to the “Simple Living Handbook” we passed out last Sunday. As we prepare to depart on holidays and mission trips (47 to youth trip to Manila,4 adults to Bawing in Philippines and 17 to Cambodia), I urge us to think about the poor of Hong Kong. Beginning on 16 October, there will be special envelopes for the 10/10/10 Offering. I have finished my “simple living day” and am now in the middle of my “simple living week.” The money that I save will go to my “simple living” giving. This week you will have a chance to sign up for the program and we will organise a way to support your commitment. My hope and prayer is that we take the biggest poverty offering in Union’s history! Please “simply live” so that you may “simply give.”

Gratefully,
Greg

Bible Series Talk and Discussion
John's Gospel: 'I AM a very different Jesus'
Sunday, 16 October 12:30PM – 1:30PM
for a simple lunch

Why are there seven signs and seven 'I am' statements, but no Last Supper, no transfiguration, no parables, and no exorcisms in John's gospel? Why is John's gospel considered anti-semitic and anti-gnostic and yet 'the gospel of love'? Why is John focused on the individual believer rather than the whole church? Does the gospel of John establish two sacraments... or five!? Why do Matthew, Mark, and Luke portray Jesus' ministry happening in one year, while John suggests a three year ministry and a very different chronology for Jesus' life? Why does only John say Lazarus' resurrection caused Jesus' death? Why does only John call Jesus the logos? Join Pastor Matthew for a talk and discussion.

Please plan to join us for the Walk To Emmaus Men's Retreat, 20 – 23 October, at the Canossian Retreat Centre in Pokfulam. We'll spend three busy and very enjoyable days of singing, prayer, worship, and discussion. Discussion centers around fifteen talks given by laity and clergy. These talks present the theme of God’s grace, and how that grace comes alive and expresses itself through us, as we become more Christ-centered husbands, fathers, neighbours, executives, and leaders in our church. At Emmaus, we begin to understand more fully the presence of Christ in us and his body of believers. Come join us!
