Andrew P Long

COMMITTEE OF MANAGEMENT: Member

Chairman of Bethany Ministries (a Charity in Hong Kong based on Cheung Chau focused on those in the Mission field)

Chairman of Stand Asia (supporting the persecuted church in Asia)

Faith: I became a Christian as an adult in Brunei in June 1982 while working with HSBC and attending church in Seria. My wife Diana was key to bringing me to faith. On returning to Hong Kong, Diana and I joined Ambassador International Church in 1985 where we met in a variety of locations in TST and on Hong Kong Island. While at Ambassador, I had the joy of baptizing two of my children in the sea in Repulse Bay. Wherever we have been posted by HSBC, Diana and I have made our friends through the school gate and at church and we have worshipped in Richmond, London (since 1996), at a church in Maadi, Cairo (under a canvas awning - even mid-Summer in 40+C), in Mosman, Sydney (more traditionally Anglican), in the Protestant Church of Oman (in the restricted church compound) in Muscat, Oman and now at Union Church. As well as being involved with Bethany (since 1987) and Stand Asia (more recently), I have been an Elder at Ambassador and a Warden at Holy Trinity Richmond, London. I started attending Union Church with my wife Diana in 2021.

Professional: A retired banking executive with extensive international experience with the HSBC Group. Experiences include building and leading a management team of the newly merged HSBC Bank in Oman with Oman International Bank from 2014-2020; managing the daily risks for HSBC Bank Egypt which arose during the Arab Spring in Egypt between 2010-2014; leading the HSBC Global Transaction Banking team through the Financial crisis of 2007/8; involved in the risk management team for HSBC during the SARS period in Hong Kong. Culturally sensitive after living and working in eleven countries across Asia, the Middle East, Australia, the USA and London.

Comments: I have been lucky, indeed blessed in so many ways. As a retired banker, I can spend time becoming more involved in helping Union Church as God and our Pastors lead me. If elected, I hope to be part of a team focused on growing the church of Christ in Hong Kong.
