U Matters

Show up at Sunlight Tower this Sunday and we will not be here. Our joint service will go down as a great event or a lesson learned. We are praying for the first option. All five of our services will be joined together for ONE WORSHIP: CELEBRATION, CONFIRMATION AND COMMUNION.

We gather at 10:30AM at the SKH Tang Siu Kin Secondary School at 9 Oi Kwan Road. Be sure to check the App or website or this mailing to get the details to how to get to this location. (Give yourself a little extra time.)

The worship will be joyous, the sermon will be challenging (Dr. John Walton), the confirmation service will inspire, and the communion will remind us of the relationships we have with each other because of Jesus Christ.

Oh, yes, there will also be a stupendous BBQ, just like the good old days, where you can meet people who don’t happen to go to “your” service. If that isn’t enough for you, there will be an afternoon lecture. What a day it will be!

Gratefully,
Pastor Greg

This Week

One Worship, 3 June, 10:30AM
This Sunday, 3 June we will combine the congregation for a joint worship service at 10:30AM at SKH Tang Siu Kin Secondary School, 9 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai. Youth will be confirmed, both the choir and praise groups will sing, and we hope it will allow everyone at Union to meet those who attend a different service. There will be a BBQ that follows and a special lecture from Dr. John Walton, one of the top Old Testament Lecturers in the world. It will be a wonderful way to celebrate TOGETHER how the Lord has been working in our church during these exciting months of transition.
*Please note all other services will be suspended.*

Christian Education
"Genesis 2 Through Ancient Eyes"
We are blessed this week with the presence of Dr. John Walton, an Old Testament Scholar and Professor at Wheaton College, as our preacher this morning and lecturer this afternoon. After receiving his Ph.D. from Hebrew Union college-Jewish Institute of Religion, he taught at Moody Bible Institute for 20 years. He has written and taught widely on the Old Testament, bringing his knowledge of Hebrew and Ancient Near Eastern thought and culture to his understanding of Scripture.

This morning we have three of his books available for purchase ($100 each): The Lost World of Genesis One, The Lost World of Adam and Eve, and The Lost World of the Israelite Conquest. After lunch today, Dr. Walton will be presenting Genesis Two: Through Ancient Eyes in the activity room on the third floor. Join us!

Small Groups

Small groups are where we dig into the nitty-gritty of following Jesus. Studying the Bible, reading topical books, praying, laughing and eating together--small groups are where we connect with each other. Groups meet all over Hong Kong on different days of the week. Interested? Contact Monte Peterson or sign up here

Adult Education

New ReCharge Class from 23 May to 27 June: Six Weeks of Psalms, with C.S. Lewis and Pastor Greg
Using C.S. Lewis' Reflections on the Psalms, we will spend six weeks enjoying the Psalms' beauty and theology, as well as how they reflect the entire human experience, from exuberant praise to crippling shame to vengeful rage. Lewis will be our guide, but we will all be reading, singing, lamenting and praising together, learning what a gift the Psalms are to our spiritual lives.

Young Adults

New Young Adults Study – SOLAE
Starting Wednesday, 30 May, young adults are invited for a new 5-weeks study: SOLAE. 500 years ago, the Protestant Reformation reclaimed 5 truth for our faith: God, the Bible, Grace, Christ, and Faith. In this course, we will explore and discuss these topics with insights from Anto Ficatier - BA & MA in Theology - and videos from RightNow Media
This class is topical, which means you can join anytime during the study.
Wednesdays 7:45PM-9:00PM, with dinner served from 7:00PM-7:45PM.

It is to celebrate what refugees add to our city, and the theme is “Show Hospitality to Strangers” (Hebrews 13:2). This is a particularly important topic and event especially in today’s world, and one of the refugees Union Church supports, Hemyar Saad, will be giving his testimony there. Union Church also participates in the Hong Kong Refugee Ministry which sponsors this event. So if you feel led, please join the gathering.
