I was born in Bournemouth, UK, but spent my teenage years in the Oxfordshire area where my parents ran several pubs and restaurants. Graduating from the University of Leicester with a degree in chemistry, I gave up the chance of several PhD offers to fulfil my childhood dream of adventures in Hong Kong through a career in the Royal Hong Kong Police which I joined directly in 1983. The last 28 years of my career were served in the area of forensics and I officially retired in 2017 as a Bureau head with the rank of Senior Superintendent.
Married to Joanne, and living in South Horizons at Ap Lei Chau, we are blessed to have 2 sons, David (29) working in London and Jonathan (28) working in Beijing.
I first attended Union Church in 1996 after a colleague recommended the Alpha course to me. Never looking back and under the stewardship of Steve & Hannah Miller and our ever faithful Patrick and Jane Wilson, I have been a facilitator on some dozen Alpha and Alpha Plus courses since then, together with running a bible study home group for 7 years. Some may recognise me through many of these years as part of the Greeter/Usher team. Currently and since 2011 I have been blessed to be part of the amazingly talented Middle-C home group in Tung Chung. I also recently completed the 13 week GriefShare course run by Pastor Michele and thoroughly recommend it.
I am delighted to currently serve on COM for my third term. In accordance with the AGM rules for election of COM I offer to continue to serve subject to re-election. May we provide a Hope and a Future for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose - To make Jesus real in people’s hearts so that others can experience His grace and joy.
