U Matters - 28 Sept 2017

by Greg Anderson on September 28, 2017

Mark Twain was paid the sum of $5.00 per word for a magazine article when the going rate in the early 20th century was 1 cent.  One day he received a letter from a stranger. “Dear Mr. Twain:  please send me a good word.”  Enclosed was a five-dollar bill.  The writer sent back this one-word reply:  “Thanks!”

I continue to thank God, my colleagues, the wonderful volunteers, and each of you for your patience as we continue to adjust to our new surroundings.  At least because of school breaks, we can promise everyone a seat in the sanctuary this week—although U-Café continues over at Hotel Indigo.

Let me put in a good word for our youth who are on their way to the Philippines to build two houses.

If there are good words, there are bad words.  This week  in sermon and small groups we tackle the 9th Commandment:  “Don’t bear false witness.”

We will hear from David Swarr, head of the the Lausanne Movement “Orality Project.” He is also the CEO of the 4.2.20 Foundation, which trains native speakers in Biblical Hebrew.  David has a passion to get the Old Testament as well as the New Testament to the millions in many cultures who cannot read but can hear the “Good Word.”

Have a great school break and/or public holidays—and we will see you—and seat you—in church if you are around this Sunday.

Gratefully,
Pastor Greg
