Today is American Thanksgiving and many people from various churches throughout the city gathered for the annual thanksgiving service at St. John’s Cathedral. What a wonderful celebration and reminder of Christian unity!
There is abundant research which emphasises the importance of gratitude. It makes us happier, healthier, more successful and the list goes on. I am thankful for the many who made desserts, salads, cooked turkeys and hams for our thanksgiving service, for those who brought goodies to share at the Ladies Dinner and for those who are cooking for the upcoming Youth Banquet. I am thankful that in our congregation we have people who are gifted in music and that this Sunday we are celebrating the first week of Advent with the Christmas Cantata. I am thankful for answered prayer and for the many gifts God has given to His church.
If being thankful is difficult for you today may God give you strength to be thankful for who He is and for w hat He has done. “O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.” 1 Chronicles 16:34
