U Matters - 3 October 2019

by Pastor Michele Michele on October 02, 2019

It has been a tense week filled with uncertainty, emotion and disbelief. As we look at Hong Kong, we watch, we pray, and we wait. As we watch the news, there is so much we do not know and there are so many unanswered questions. In effect, we are in a season of waiting.

Many of us can relate to waiting and, truth be told, we are not very good at it. We have grown accustomed to immediate gratification. We want it now – or in some cases yesterday. But we wait. We wait on the markets, we wait on medical results, we wait to graduate, we wait for direction, we wait for new roles, we wait for Mr. or Mrs. Right; we wait.
Waiting isn’t easy but it is how we wait that is important. We can wait in fear, we can wait in despair, we can wait in worry and anxiety or we can wait prayerfully trusting in the only thing that can sustain us, our church and our city – God. The Psalmist writes,

For God alone my soul waits in silence;
   from him comes my salvation.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
   my fortress; I shall never be shaken.
For God alone my soul waits in silence,
   for my hope is from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
   my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On God rests my deliverance and my honor;
   my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.
Trust in him at all times, O people;
   pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. Psalm 62:1-2;5-7

While we wait, let’s continue to be engaged. Consider caring for your marriage (new course starts soon), praying for the 30+ going to Manila on a mission’s trip this weekend or consider connecting with a small group as we kick off a new series on Jonah, (Tim Keller’s book Prodigal Prophet available at the welcome table Sunday).

Whatever it is you are waiting for, may God give you courage, comfort and peace,

Pastor Michele
