U Matters - 2 April 2020

We are living in unprecedented times. You may have found yourself feeling similar to the Psalmist who said:

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from helping me, from the words of my groaning?
O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer;
and by night, but find no rest.” Psalm 22:1-2

Some of us are filled with worry, anxiety and fear. Some of us are experiencing the dark night of the soul and can relate to this prayer of complaint. Sometimes we need to cry out to God. Jesus did. In fact, hours before His death, Jesus “cried with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Matthew 27:46

As we journey toward Easter, we are mindful of the suffering of Jesus. We are also mindful that we live on this side of the cross. Because Jesus cried these words: “My God, why have you forsaken me” we can have hope. The Psalmist articulates that hope - “he did not hide his face from me, but heard when I cried to him.” V24. My prayer is that as we cry out to Him we will also find hope.

Blessings, Pastor Michele
