Psalm 19 is called by C.S. Lewis as the ‘greatest poem in the Psalter and one of the greatest lyric poems in the world.” It’s closing verse is a prayer we should pray every day: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” It is hard to go through a day using only God-acceptable speech, let alone thinking acceptable thoughts. It is early in the day but already my thoughts and words have not always honoured God. Is Christ represented well by the thoughts you think and words you use?

“The heavens are telling the glory of God,” begins the Psalmist. Are our thoughts and words declaring the glory of God? As I was writing this someone called with words of wisdom and encouragement. I thank the Lord that there are people who have the ability to encourage me to live a more-Christlike life. Psalm 19 warns us of “hidden faults.” Please pray for me as I seek allow my thoughts and speech to be held captive by the Word of God.

Please take a few minutes to read the 19th Psalm. It might make your day—or your life.

Gratefully,
Pastor Greg
