When I landed in Seattle Monday morning I learned that Delta Airlines computer had crashed and my flight to Chicago was cancelled. They told me they booked me on a flight the next day. After much “persuasion” they scheduled me on a later flight the same day. But when I got to the gate I was denied boarding. Turns out the computer said I did not exist  The gate attendant was adamant. Two of us were in the same situation. My fellow non- passenger tried sobbing and swearing. I prayed and called the Delta hotline. They told me I existed and couldn’t figure out what was going on but didn’t know how to fix it. The already three-hour-delayed plane was delayed another 25 minutes while a supervisor argued with the gate attendant and finally ordered him to let us on.  Needless to say we were not real popular with angry passengers who were kept waiting by the two non-persons.  But I arrived in Chicago at 1:00AM and hope that my luggage will arrive some day soon.  Not a good start to a holiday.

How do we do at customer service at Union?  Are there people looking for Christ and/or a church home who find us less than helpful?

My big regret is that I will not be there Sunday to hear Dr. Michael Lindsay preach.  His book VIEW FROM THE TOP has received rave reviews.  He has a unique vantage point on the relational dimensions of leadership.  Praise God for a Delta employee who got me on the plane.  She affirmed my personhood and made me feel much better about the airline. May we each this week make someone feel better about Christ and his Church.
