Many of you have asked for an update following the 16 March vote to move forward with rebuilding Union. Here is an update of what has happened since then and what will happen next.

Gratefully,

Building Union for the Future

On Sunday, 16 March 2014 at the Annual General Meeting, the members of Union Church came to an agreement to move forwards with redevelopment of the current site. We are encouraged and uplifted by the story of the prophet Haggai who encouraged Israel to rebuild the temple, “The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house, says the Lord Almighty. And in this place I will grant peace, declares the Lord Almighty.”

As part of the preliminary works, we expect certain contractors to perform soil investigation at our site starting from 17 May 2014. This process will take approximately 4-5 weeks and will involve certain equipment and contractors to be present on site. We will ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum. In addition, we are working on improving the design of the new church facilities and getting approvals from the Buildings Department for the new design. We hope to be able to sign a formal agreement with Henderson around September 2014 and envisage moving to our temporary premises around March 2015.

The Committee of Management, Deacons and Trustees have agreed to form a steering committee and to establish eight working groups to provide prayer support, move the redevelopment project forward and bring it to fruition. Please prayerfully consider if you can contribute your passion and professional expertise and experience in one of the following working groups:

  1. Prayer
  2. Legal & Tax
  3. Design
  4. Finance
  5. Stewardship
  6. User Group
  7. Transitional Management
  8. Communications
