Prayer Until Something Happens - this week's prayer items...

  • “I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2) Heavenly Father, this week had been tough for many here in our city. We ask that you come to help us, heal us, grant us peace and rest, and give us hope in Jesus Christ.

  • “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection.” (Philippians 3:10) God of wholeness, thank you for listening to our hearts and voices. Because you know us, we can be truly cleansed and equipped to serve you. Excite in us a passion to serve you and your people.

  • “Come, Holy Spirit, God and Lord! Let all your graces be outpoured on each believer’s mind and heart; your fervent love to us impart. Lord, by the brightness of your light, you in faith do men unite, of every land and every tongue; this to your praise, O Lord, be sung. From every error keep us free, let none but Christ our Master be, that we in living faith abide, in Him with all our might confide. Lord, by your power prepare each heart, and to our weakness strength impart, that bravely here we may contend, through life and death to you ascend.”

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom.” (Colossians 3:16) God of wisdom, help us to centre our communities of faith around your Word. Give our leaders discernment on how to shepherd those in sorrow, fear and confusion, and guide us all into greater awareness of your presence. Give us all the faith to follow your wise leading. Amen.

  • “Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.” (Hebrews 13:1) Heavenly Father, we pray for our church family. Let us not follow the ways of the world that lead to disunity, but rather lead us to the way of Jesus. May we learn to love one another as ourselves, and care for the least of those among us. Teach us how to reach out to and disciple the young people in the city so they can be supported in their walk with you. Lord, enable us to love. And we thank you because you first loved us.

  • “This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” (Isaiah 25:9) Lord Jesus, thank you for banishing our sin by your sacrifice. While we wait for the completion of your kingdom, may our lives demonstrate your love to our neighbours.

  • Lord we thank you for establishing and sustaining Union Church for 175 years. As we celebrate our 175th anniversary, we pray that it will be a joyful time of coming together in thanksgiving of your faithfulness as well as renewal of our commitment to you as our one and only God. We lift up all preparation to you and ask that you will sanctify every detail. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Today is Prayer Sunday! Pray that people pray for the Lord to change them and use them... and to change Union Church and use Union Church. If you would like prayer, Deacons and other intercessors are available after the service to pray with people. We invite you to come forward. "Prayer does not change God, but it changes those who pray." (Soren Kierkegaard)
